What is the best method of infusing a Whistler?

Drinking a Siffleux is comforting like coffee.
I have several tips for really enjoying your Whistler, and it starts with having a good infusion method.

The right tools

First, the most important thing is to use the tools you have at home. At home, I have a french press and it's by far the best way to brew a Siffleux, because with that, you can let it macerate for as long as you want. This allows you to develop a more or less deep bitterness, depending on your taste.

A very simple method of infusion is to use a herbal tea filter type: basket. It gives a lighter drink in the mouth. In this way, hot water is poured over it and the filter is removed immediately after pouring the water. It is possible to end up with crumbs in the cup, if our filter does not have a fine enough mesh. The one in the photo shows the ideal stitch size. The taste will appeal to herbal tea lovers, with less bitter and sweeter final notes in the mouth.

When I tested the tea infuser, I took the leap. It doesn't infuse well. Because we end up with barely colored and bland water. I don't advise it. I no longer use my tea infuser to brew a Siffleux. It's good for tea, it says!

The coffee machine, does it work?

Some people have done the test of putting their Siffleux in their coffee or espresso machine, and it works! The only problem is that you have to fill the filter basket and it takes a lot more Whistlers with this method. I recommend this method less because, in the long run, it costs more to do that.

In any case, to know if the infusion went well, there must be two important things: the color must be dark black. And it shouldn't taste like water.

water temperature

When boiling water is poured over the Siffleux, it deteriorates all the flavors and makes the drink more bitter. At 90 degrees, it's the ideal temperature to let all the flavors waltz in your mouth! Since I don't measure the water temperature every time, my trick is to stop my kettle just before it starts boiling. This way, I don't risk burning my drink.

Froth milk

What is your favorite milk? Soy milk? Oats? From a cow? Fine! Well by lathering it and adding it to the Siffleux. That makes all the difference.

If you don't have a filter

I have two filters to offer you, which have different functions. The first is an easy-to-use fabric filter. The only problem, you have to like getting your hands dirty, because after filtering the beverage, you have to empty its contents (into the compost) and wash the fabric with a mild soap for the next use.

I also have another filter that goes with a travel mug. It is really convenient for camping. With its very fine mesh, we are sure to have no crumbs in the cup! You can put coffee, herbal teas and Siffleux in it. The only problem, the water flows very slowly from the filter. So, I stir the liquid so that it flows faster, and it works. Besides, with the POP it goes very well.
